Om å være den hvite flamingo : Medborgerskap og samfunnsdeltakelse for mødre til barn med store funksjonsbegrensninger

Abstract

Målet med studien er å utforske medborgerskap og samfunnsdeltakelse for mødre til barn med store funksjonsbegrensninger. Dette i konteksten av endringer av medborgerskapets vilkår i samfunnet, fra å tidligere være en kollektiv rettighet til sosial forsørgelse, til i dag å sikres gjennom inkludering i arbeids markedets vilkår. Det vil undersøkes om mødrenes sosiale rettigheter som medborger er i stand til å motvirke forskjellighet, og om de sikres omfordeling og anerkjennelse for forskjellighet i samfunnet. Det ble benyttet en kvalitativ metode med et semistrukturert forskningsintervju av seks mødre, og en temasentrert analyse inspirert av systematisk tekstkondensering for å analysere og tolke datamaterialet. Fire tema ble identifisert; • Mødrenes begrensninger/ byrder • Mødrenes behov • Mødre er barnets talerør • Solidaritet med andre og kobling til samfunnet Studien viser til flere barrierer for mødrene, og en følelse av å stå utenfor og å ikke få den « samme farge» for samfunnsdeltakelse som andre mødre, som følge av omsorgsbelastninger. Fortellinger til mødre kan dermed tolkes i tråd med den kjente generelle forventninger i forskning og samfunnet om å falle utenfor og bli passivisert. Mødre ne opplever ikke sin arbeidsdeltakelse som fullverdig. Men studien og mødres beskrivelser viser også at de har en samfunnsrolle som talerør for sitt barn, og en nødvendighe t av å danne nettverk og kontakter med likestilte. Materialet viser mulighet for tolkning av deres erfaringer og rolle som en form for aktivt, inkluderende og aktivistisk medborgerskap, særlig gjennom å være barnets talerør. Sett ut fra et normativt rettferdighetsprinsipp, må samfunnet ta hensyn til reelle barrierer for mødre ne s samfunnsdeltakelse og medborgerskap.

The aim of the study is to explore citizenship and community participation for mothers of children with major disabilities. This is done in the context of changes to the conditions of citizenship in society, from previously being a collective right to social security, to today being secured through inclusion in the conditions of the labor market. It will be investigated whether mothers' social rights as citizens are capable of counteracting difference, and whether redistribution and recognition of difference in society is ensured. A qualitative method was used with a semi-structured research interview of six mothers, and a theme-centred analysis inspired by systematic text condensation to analyze and interpret the data material. Four theme was identified: • Mothers' limitations/burdens • Mothers' needs • Mothers are children's mouthpieces • Solidarity with others and connection to society The study points to several barriers for mothers, and a feeling of being left out and not getting "the same color" in their participation as other mothers, as a result of care burdens. Narratives to mothers can thus be interpreted in line with known general expectations in research and society to fall outside and be passive. Mothers do not experience their work participation as fulfilling. But the study and the mothers' descriptions also show that they have a social role that tells about their child, and that there is a need to form networks and contacts with equals. The material shows the possibility of interpreting their experiences and role as a form of active, participatory and activist citizenship, especially through being the child's mouthpiece. Viewed from a normative principle of justice, society must take into account real barriers to mothers' social participation and citizenship.
