I læreplanen ligg

introduksjonsprogrammet. | en_US |
dc.description.abstract | This master`s thesis is about the focus on using work- placed teaching methods in learning
Norwegian as a second language as a part of the Norwegian introduction program for newly
arrived immigrants to Norway, seen from the participants perspective.
The purpose with the introduction program and the direction of work is to strengthen the
possibility for participation in society- and work life for newly arrived immigrants, as defined
in the introduction law and the curriculum. Behind the curriculum exists a sociocultural view
on teaching and language, therefore this lays down the theoretical foundation for this thesis.
According to this view the participants in the introduction program function as a participating
party in their own learning, which is created via the language in a meaningful and direct
relation to others, which thereafter creates a social community. Practical work as part of the
work direction of learning the Norwegian language is meant to offer this, with the purpose of
teaching and gaining in the form of learning language, and receive knowledge of culture and
work life, in addition to acquiring work experience and create a network which leads to
further education or work after finishing the introduction program.
The research question is as follows: What gain has the participants in the introduction
program had from practical work as a tool in the learning of Norwegian as a language, with
the purpose of achieving the goals of the introduction program? The purpose of this thesis is
to explore what the participants experience as meaningful whilst focusing on using practical
work to reach the goals of the introduction program, which is permanent employment. What
gain did they have from this form of teaching when it comes to employment five years after
arriving to Norway? Which factors does the participants feel hinders or enhances good quality
in the work direction of the learning of Norwegian?
Data was collected by using qualitative interview with former participants in the work
program, which was terminated in 2017. Method based on hermeneutics has been used to
analyze the data material, considering sociocultural learning theories and indicators for
quality in work direction of the learning of Norwegian. This analysis was not enough to get an
insight into the factors which the informants meant affected the learning processes negatively.
This was additionally seen in light of theories about migration and acculturation. Findings
from the thesis indicate a correlation between perception of your own identity, and how this
affects the participants identity, whilst meeting the new society. Research in this thesis
indicate that a sense of identity play a deciding role when it comes to not only language
learning, but also a successful acculturation process. This knowledge indicates that the
teaching and qualifying of recently arrived adults needs to show more consideration to the
correlation between identity and acculturation, which can be secured by adapting the teaching
through increased user participation in the introduction program. | en_US |
