dc.description.abstract | What kind of preaching has the potential of causing a change in the listeners? Inspired by classical rhetoric, the author investigates the significance of content, feeling and person in preaching to young people. The Bible seems to have an undisputable place in the youth’s thinking of preaching but they emphasise that its relevance for their everyday life has to be demonstrated. It seems as they rarely have encountered preaching that has moved them. Yet, when preachers care, they may care as well. My informants highlight the significance of the preachers’ own experiences and whether they live what they preach as a test of integrity. Further, they see the preachers’ close attention to the listeners’ needs as a key to a meaningful preaching that may cause change. Based on the investigation, the author especially suggests more emphasis on dialogical preaching and the significance of emotions as important factors of change. | en |
