Abstract

This contribution is the first of four articles presenting the results of a qualitative research project entitled «Border-breaking preaching for youth (15–18 years old)». The investigation draws on a research tradition which asks listeners to share their experiences of preaching. This article outlines how the research was conducted. It presents the interviewees, 12 females and 5 males, with an average age of 16.4 years. All of them were active in Christian youth activities by the time of the interview. Some challenges connected to qualitative research methods are then presented, together with the main content of the interview guide. It is discussed whether the investigation contributed to a better understanding of the subject, the use of labels such as «Christian» and «Christian family» in the interview material, and the article closes by outlining important issues in the analysis of the data.
