My research on the effects of globalization and immigration on family relationships has centered on the caregiving aspect among Thai migrant women in Norway. It addresses the issue of immigrant adult children caring for their families in host society and back home. The purpose of this master thesis is to examine the empirical evidence on the dynamics of transnational caregiving within families, such as natal families in Thailand, childcare, care for Norwegian spouses and parents-in-law, as well as caregiving practices within the temple community. Five themes were identified: Conceptualization of Caregiving Roles; Challenges in Multifaceted Caregiving Roles; Adaptation and Integration; Coping Strategies and Resilience; Impact on Well-being and Family Dynamics. Despite the high economic and emotional costs, immigrant women attempted to care for their families both in Norway and Thailand, fulfilling their filial responsibility and confirming their ethnic identity. overall, Thai migrant women showed creativity and resilience in how they managed caregiving duties across national borders.
